London Council for Voluntary Service produce a CD through their PEACe project that explains the role of the NJC scales and how they are used by voluntary sector groups to determine pay levels. The scales are especially useful when fundraising for new staff.
The CD costs £99 (incl. VAT). For more information contact: PEACe tel 020 3349 8920 firstname.lastname@example.org
The pay scales are derived from negotiations between local authorities and trade unions. The scales for 2013/14 represent a 1% increase. From October 1 the lowest scale point will be abolished.
Official NJC scales only go up to point 49. London councils negotiate scales above that but these are advisory not official. They are usually published on the London Voluntary Services Council website (when available). Alternatively you could contact your local council and align your organisation to their practice above point 49.
LVSC can give you advice on mileage rates as well as rates for meals and accommodation.
